Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions About Drywall & Plaster Repair

Straight answers about cost, timelines, scheduling, and what to expect when you work with us.

How much does drywall repair cost?

It depends on the size and complexity of the damage. As a general guide, most small repairs like nail holes, dents, or minor cracks run in the $150 to $500 range, while larger repairs involving multiple spots, full panel replacement, or water damage cost more. These are general industry-typical ranges, not a fixed quote. The best way to get an accurate number is a free estimate.

How long does a typical drywall repair take?

A small patch, like a hole or crack, can often be completed in a single visit, though the joint compound needs time to dry between coats, so we may need to come back the next day to sand, texture, and paint. Larger repairs, full rooms, or water damage jobs take longer depending on scope. We'll give you a specific timeline as part of your estimate.

Can you match textured or popcorn ceilings?

Yes. We regularly match knockdown, orange peel, and smooth or skip-trowel textures so a patch blends into the surrounding wall or ceiling. See our texture matching page for more detail. We also remove popcorn ceilings entirely and refinish them smooth or with a lighter modern texture, covered on our popcorn ceiling removal page.

Do you handle storm or water damage repairs?

Yes. We repair drywall damaged by leaks, storms, and appliance failures. Soggy or stained drywall needs to be cut out and replaced rather than painted over, and we handle that process from removal through texture matching and paint. The area does need to be dry and the source of the leak resolved before we rebuild. More detail is on our water damage repair page.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, Master Drywall Renovation Inc. is a Florida corporation, locally owned and operated by Jonathan DeJesus and based in Clearwater, FL. If you'd like specific documentation for your project, just ask when you request your estimate.

Do I need to be home during the repair?

For an initial estimate, it helps to have someone there to point out the damage and answer questions, though photos are often enough for smaller jobs. For the repair itself, you're welcome to be home, but it isn't required as long as we have access to the space and can reach you by phone if anything comes up.

What areas do you serve?

We serve Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Tampa, Largo, Dunedin, and Palm Harbor, along with the surrounding Tampa Bay area. See our service area page for details. If you're just outside these areas, reach out anyway, we may still be able to help.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. Every job starts with a free, no-obligation estimate, whether that's an in-person visit or a quote based on photos and a description of the damage. You'll have a clear price before any work begins.

Can you match my existing paint color?

In most cases, yes. We look at your existing paint, ideally a sample from an outlet cover, closet, or leftover can, and match it as closely as possible. Because paint fades and changes with age, we'll also let you know if a full wall or room repaint would give a more consistent result than a spot touch-up. More on this on our interior painting page.

What's the difference between drywall repair and plaster repair?

Drywall is a paper-faced gypsum panel, common in newer construction. Plaster is a wet material applied in coats over lath, common in older homes, and it's harder, thicker, and behaves differently when damaged. Plaster repairs need to account for the wall's original thickness and profile, and a generic drywall-style patch often fails on plaster within a year or two. Read more on our plaster repair page.

How should I prepare a room before your crew arrives?

Clearing furniture, wall decor, and floor items away from the work area helps us get started faster, though we do bring drop cloths and cover what we can. Removing valuables or breakables from the room is also a good idea, especially for ceiling work. We'll let you know if a specific job needs anything beyond that.

How quickly can you schedule a repair?

Most repairs are scheduled within a few days of your estimate, and we move faster on active water damage or urgent situations. Exact timing depends on our current schedule and the scope of the job, so contact us and we'll give you a specific date.
