Popcorn Ceiling Removal
Scrape, skim coat, and refinish a dated ceiling into a clean, modern surface, smooth or retextured to match your preference.
Popcorn (also called cottage cheese or acoustic) ceilings were a common builder-grade finish in homes constructed a few decades back. It was quick to apply, helped hide minor imperfections in the ceiling drywall, and had some sound-dampening benefit. It's fallen out of style since then, and a lot of homeowners in Clearwater and around Tampa Bay are looking to remove it and switch to a smooth or lightly textured modern ceiling instead.
If your popcorn ceiling was applied a long time ago, it's worth having it looked at carefully before removal begins. We recommend addressing older ceilings with care, and if you have specific concerns about what's in an older ceiling material, a qualified testing lab is the right resource to answer that question, that's outside what we do as a repair contractor. We're happy to talk through the general condition of your ceiling as part of a free estimate.
A removed and refinished ceiling makes a bigger visual difference in a room than most homeowners expect, it tends to make the space feel brighter and more current. It's common to pair popcorn removal with an interior repaint of the walls at the same time, since the room is already prepped and it's an efficient time to freshen up the whole space. If your ceiling also has water staining or sagging from a past leak, take a look at our water damage repair page first, since that needs to be addressed before or during the popcorn removal rather than after.
We remove popcorn ceilings throughout Clearwater, Tampa, and the surrounding area, and every estimate is free. Get in touch to schedule a look at your ceiling.
